WILLIAM OSBORNE born about 1828
Hi everyone, trying to trace our OSBORNE family back.
We know WILLIAM OSBORNE was born somewhere in County Wicklow about 1828. By the 1860's he & his family were living in Manchester in England & WILLIAM was a stone mason.
Any possible matches please contact me. malcolm sutton.

Osbornes
hi Malcom, I am not sure if the connection is the right one but I am also trying to trace the Osbornes of Wicklow. My grandmother was a born a McCarroll but her mother was born an Osborne. I know that there was subsequent connections with Ballyknockan in Wicklow and granite production and quarrying. Could it be a coincidence that your ancestors were also masons? My grandmother was called Sheila Conroy nee McCarroll but her mother was I think Brigid Osborne before becoming a McCarroll.01/06/2007 5:08 pm

WILLIAM OSBORNE (1828) OF WICKLOW
HI JOANNE,It does seem possible that they are related to each other somehow.
By the time of the Griffiths valuation i think they had moved on to county Carlow;WILLIAM married a MARGARET (possibly FOLEY)who was born there & a son PATRICK was born there about 1850;MARY was born Narig(?) about 1852; JOHN born Dublin about 1861; then JAMES born in Manchester in 1866.
It seems likely there will be more children i don't know about;do any of these names figure in your OSBORNE tree?
Regards Malcolm Sutton.

McCarroll
Brigid McCarroll (also called Bride) was part of the Osborne family who owned a very large quary in Wicklow - i mean a big quary, sourced granite for many an important building. She became a McCarroll when she married Hugh McCarroll. He was a solicitor in Wicklow. There is still a firm there today that bears the McCarroll name.
Hugh was the son of a man named Joseph McCarroll from Tyrone. Joseph was on the Wicklow Council with Briget's father - William Osborne, of Balyknockan House Blessington. Joseph was a staunch supporter of the Home Rule and Land League and was apparantly a personal friend of Charles Stuart Parnell and Michael Davitt.
Hugh McCarroll fought in the first world war and fell ill after that. I believe Sheila is his daughter. I think. If so, we're related as her brother was Patrick McCarroll - my grandfather. Did she have a brother called Des and Joe and another sister called Peggy??

Osborne research
Hi David,
We must indeed be related. Grannys sister was definately Peggy whose daughter Celine is my sisters Godmother. I never knew or met Joe Patrick or Des but mom (Barbara nee Conroy but now O Meara)remembers them well. This is great. Do you know anything about Robert Osborne who was born in 1847? He appears to be somewhat of an enigma. If you have any old family photos or info Id love to see them. My emails ***
