Re: murphyhayes family Blackrock Cork 1840's
I really know nothing about my Murphy ancestors, except that they came from Cork. However, the fact that you have Hayes with Murphy caught my eye. My ancestor was James Murphy, b. about 1822. He married Bridget Burke, probably about 1845. They appear to have left Ireland in 1849, minus their first two children, William and Ellen. They settled in Lockport, NY, USA, and later sent for their children. I believe (no proof) that he had a brother, Patrick, born about 1826 in Ireland. Patrick was married to Margaret Hayes, also born about 1826 in Ireland. Their children were all born in US, starting in 1850. It also appears that James' parents were William Murphy and Ellen Hayes.
Family lore said they came from County Cork, and Ancestry DNA somewhat confirmed that my ancestry is in Munster area. That's all I know. Any of that wring a bell?
