Cork, E.R. (county), Cork (barony)
I have searched for many years to find information about my 3rd great grandfather Jeremiah Corkery(1840?-1922). He was born in Ireland (after a recent visit to Ireland the locals I spoke to believe he was either from Cork or Kerry) and died in the city I live in, Auburn, New York. From his death certificate I see his parents were William Corkery and Hannah Shea. He married Catherine Quin though I don't know what date they were married. Her death certificate shows John Quin as her father and Mary (without a last name) as her mother.
I believe they married in Ireland, then moved to England before settling in the United States as the 1880 Federal Census gives me information about the births of their children.
The first two children were born in Ireland, the next four children were born in England with the last English birth occurring in 1874. The final two children were born in New York with the first one being born in 1876. So I am assuming the Corkery family I am looking for arrived here in 1875 or 1876?
I have been unable to find the port they arrived in the United States. I have a good deal of information and documentation of their time living in the community I currently live in, however I have nothing firm that links them to Ireland or England.
In my online searches, I have found at least a dozen folks named Jeremiah Corkery having been born in Ireland around the 1830's and 1840's, but the parents names do not match the names on my Jeremiah's death certificate. Does anyone have any suggestions of where I might search from here?
