McKeon family
I'm trying to find out if anyone knows anything more definite about the McKeon family. I have found a Thomas McKeon from Mullingar in the townland of Kilpatrick and I believe him to be my great great great grandfather. My great great grandmother, according to an old obit. says that her maiden name was Kallighan from near Kilucan. Any leads will be appreciated.16/05/2014 7:24 am

Re: McKeon family
hi donalpascal
My great grandfather was Thomas McKeon from Westmeath. he was a butcher in the
early 1900s and went on to become a cattle dealer by 1911 in accordance with
the census. at this stage the family had moved to Dublin. this may be one
of the same Thomas McKeon's as you are researching. he was born in 1870 and
based on burials in glasnevin cemetery I assume his mother was mary ? born in
1847. There is my great grandfather buried in this plot and there is also another
Thomas McKeon buried there also. he was born in 1896 and as my grandmother was born
in 1896 he is not her brother Thomas who was born in 1903.if you think this is your great great great grandfather let me know and I will give you all the information I have pertaining to him and his children.
regards
carmel O'Connell
great grand daughter of Thomas mckeon

Re: McKeon family
I am also a McKeon, My Father is Anthony McKeon, born 24-12-42 in Drimnagh.
My grandfather is also Anthony McKeon whom married a Julia McCourt.
My father's eldest brother is a Thomas McKeon, RIP, he passed recently he was born in the 30's
My father has told me in the past, his fathers family was quite wealthy in the 10's and 20's and that my grandfather drove a Ford Model T during that period.
My Father told me his grandfather was a Thomas McKeon and owned farms and had butcher shops in Dublin and perhaps also his great grandfather was a Thomas McKeon as well. All Hailing from Mullingar area.
He mentioned that his father told him that somewhere along this line our surname may have changed from McKeogh to McKeon due to a son failing out with his father.
I will ask my father the names of and surnames of marriages back as far as he knows.
