Scanlon and Fox, and maybe Carney from Ballyduff Upper (west), Waterford
I am looking for ancestors and relations of William Scanlon who lived on the Cork Waterford border (in Waterford) and who emigrated to the US in the early 1850s.
His father's name was also William and his mother's name was Margaret Fox.
The younger William married a Mary Carney, possibly from Ballyduff area, or possibly from County Cork. They married in the US and Mary may have not been a neighbor at all.
The Scanlons all emigrated together and seem to have been in Connecticut (New Britain??) for a time. Then the younger William shows up in Grass Valley, Nevada County, California, as a gold miner (hydraulic) by 1864, married to Mary, and had four children there. In 1869, they moved back to Houghton, MI, in copper country for a couple of years, and then to Negaunee, MI, where he became an underground iron miner and diamond driller.
It is unknown whether the elder William and his wife were in California, but they do show up in the records in Negaunee. So they might have been elsewhere when the younger William was in California.
Looking for connections.
