Hello, I'm descended from the same William McEncroe d.1796 on a racecourse but have no record of his ancestry. Irish records are scant. One son was Fr John McEncroe. Another son Pierce 1773 - ? married Margaret (surname unknown) and had Edward, Dennis, Thomas and Pierce, that I know of. All four came to Aus. Edward, my gggrandfather, had a shop in Cashel. I read somewhere that the first mayor of Cashel was a McEncroe. Mary McEncroe (nee D'Arcy) remarried a Patrick? Walsh and had four daughters.20/06/2010 8:37 am

Hello Irene and Allan,
I am interetsed to know how my g/grandmother, Ellen McEncroe is related to Rev John McEncroe. Ellen had a sister Mary and both married brothers, John and Denis Foley. Her father was Denis McEncroe, married to Ellen Lonergan(1843); their first child was named Pierce. I am presuming that Denis(1815-1863) was the son of Pierce McEncroe(1773- ), and he was likely to be a brother of William McEncroe, the father of Edward and (Rev)John. If this is so, then Denis McEncroe was a first cousin of Rev John McEncroe.
Denis McEncroe arrived in Sydney by "Woodbridge" 8th March 1842, aged 27 years.

Hello Colleen,
Your g/grandmother Ellen Mcencroe is the great niece of Fr John McEncroe. John's brother Pierce and his wife Margaret had Edward, Denis and Thomas (that I know of) all of whom came to Aus. Your Denis was Fr John's nephew.
Now to Irene - Michael D'Arcy and Bridget Walsh were the witnesses at the marriage (by Fr John) of Edward Mcencroe and Margaret Dalton, Sydney 1845. These two surnames appear in the Mcencroe ancestry, although Walsh is fairly common. It is reasonable to assume they were all related somehow and left Ireland for the promised land!
