Ellen McCarthy, daughter of Michael McCarthy and unknown mother. Married at age 18 on December 18, 1939 to Stephen Walsh in Salford, England, which would make her year of birth 1921 or possibly (outside chance) late December 1920.
Da says that Ellen was for sure born in Ireland, but he doesn't remember her DOB or any other helpful details (like her mother's name). He does think that they were from County Cork or County Tipperary and more specifically lived in a place called Bellview or maybe Belvue (actual spelling not known)? If she was indeed born in Ireland, I don't have any information as to how or when the family left Ireland for England.
I'm interested in Stephen Walsh too. Not sure if he was born in Ireland or in England, but he was 26 as of December 1939, which would make his year of birth 1913. Father's name was James Walsh and the mother's first name was Florence, maiden name unknown. James Walsh is listed as deceased on Stephen and Ellen's marriage certificate in 1939, but no idea when or where he died.
I know this is a lot to ask, but any help would be appreciated. Looking to get an Irish passport on my grandma's citizenship for if/when my British passport is no good for residency in EU countries. Not that I have any plans to leave the States and repatrirate any time soon. Interested in the genealogy too, but my tracing my wife's Norwegian roots has been a doddle compared to the battle to find my own. I'm even thinking of doing one of the popular ancestry DNA tests just to find distant cousins who may have more information (which may still be a good idea!).
