I'm researching Bernard Gallagher born 1823. He was transported to Van Dieman's Land ( Tasmania, Australia) in 1845 for cattle theft. His parent may have been Patrick and Bridget Gallagher ( as yet uncomfirmed). He died in Glen Innes Australia in 1907. Any information would be welcomed.

Like you, I'm related to Bernard Gallagher (Irish Convict) who was born in 1823. According to family heresay he may have been born in Co.Donegal, Kings County (Offally) or Co. Sligo on 01.11.1823. He was tried in Sligo on 06.03.1845 and his native place is listed as Co.Sligo, but this could have been where he spent most of his life and not where he was born. Bernard was sentenced to 10 years transportation for stealing 4 cows. He left London on the "Ratcliffe" on 19.05.1845 and arrived in Hobart 30.08.1845. He married Ann Corry (another convict) on 07.04.1851 at St. Josephs Catholic Church Hobart. Bernard (Barney) Gallagher died in Glen Innes on 09.06.1907.
The best match for his father so far, is Patrick Gallagher (Irish convict) born abt 1798 who was tried for Burglary in Sligo and sentenced to life. He arrived in Sydney on the "City of Edinburgh (2)" in 1832. His convict records list him as "Single, wife Bridget Doherty arrived per Pyramus (2) 1836". Patrick's father was Bernard Gallagher (farmer) and his mother was Bridget Gallagher. Have lots more........
