Peter Dooley born abt 1874
I am researching the Dooley family but, sadly, I do not know what part of Ireland they hailed from. I have a grandfather, Peter Dooley, born abt 1874, his brother, Patrick, 1875 and a sister Catherine, 1881. There may be more siblings, but that is not known. Peter and Patrick both went to England - Peter around 1890 - to Ashton U Lyne (Stalybridge), where he lodged with the Byrne family. He married Mary Anne Concannon in 1893 in Hemsworth West Yorks and had 8 children: Lawrence (perhaps) in 1895 who didn't survive; Peter 1897; Mary Anne 1899; Thomas, 1901, maria ? John Lawrence 1903, Margaret ? Bernard 1907; Kathleen 1910. Peter jnr was in Royal Engineers in WW1 and was gassed in France. He died in Edlington, S yorks in 1920. (john) Lawrence was editor of several substantial newspapers, served the Comintern in Prague, was well-known in literary and political circles, married Anne Kelly in 1945 and died in 1958, during a political debate in Ilford, Essez.
Peter snr's brother, Patrick followed to England circa 1898, married Ethel (mcHugh?) in 1902, Died in 1950 - all in Hemsworth. If any of this rings a bell with any other researchers, and if anyone knows where these brothers came from, please advise. Thank you
Susan

Peter Dooley
Hi Susan,
I am also researching my family tree and my great grandfather was a Patrick Dooley, who came to Yorkshire from Essexford, County Monaghan around the time you suggest with a brother - could they be one and the same? He died in Hemsworth in 1950 and was born in 1875 I believe.

Peter Dooley born abt 1874
Hi Susan,
I have been speaking to my cousin who has done much more work than me on the family tree and he corroborates what you say below regarding your Dooley connection so I definitely think we're related!
He spoke to Peter Dooley's daughter Kathleen at the beginning of the 1990s when she was living in Hampstead, North London and is going to dig out his notes.
Please do get in touch: I can send you a photo of Patrick to see if he looks like Peter and also of the family house outside Essexford in County Monaghan. I am currently trying to establish whether it is still standing!
Hope to hear from you!

Peter and Peter Dooley
Hi Susan and Georgiana,
I have read with interest about Peter and Patrick Dooley. Peter Dooley married into my branch of the Dooley family through his wife Mary Ann Concannon.
Mary Ann Concannon's grandfather is my great-great-great grandfather's brother (if that makes sense!). Of particular interest is that Mary Anne's mother was Mary Dooley and her father was Daniel Concannon. Mary Anne's grandparents were Lawrence and Margaret Dooley and I wonder if Mary Anne didn't married a distant cousin (ie Peter Dooley). We have found living relatives of the Lawrence Dooley family in Pennslyvania, USA (they are ancestors of Mary Anne Concannon's Uncle Martin Dooley).
However, we too are trying to find out what part of Ireland Lawrence Dooely and his brother Edward Dooley (my g,g,g, grandfather) came from.
Georgiana, seeing as your relative had spoken to Peter's daughter, Kathleen, I was wondering if there was anything about her mother's side of the family (ie Mary Ann Concannon's family) and where they came from.
I look forward to hearing from you. I have also tried making contact with Susan through another ancestry site, but unfortunately haven't had any luck!
Many thanks,
Anne
