SHEERIN family, Navan
Good afternoon,
I am looking for information on my great grandfather, Bernard SHEERIN who I believe was born in Rafferty’s Lane in Navan in 1836 and possibly married three times. His children were Bernard Joseph SHEERIN, born Navan 05 April 1890, my grandfather, Mary SHEERIN Born 1880 Died 1917 and James SHEERIN Born 1887. My grandfather enlisted in the Army in 1914 and was wounded at Gallipoli and then again on the Somme in 1916. He was invalided out in early 1918 and settled in Plymouth, Devon.
I’d appreciate any advice on where the best place is to start looking for records, would these be held in Navan? There are a number of family stories, one is that Bernard murdered his wife Ellen and was sentenced to death but this was commuted to life in prison. My grandfather makes no mention of his parents when he enlists in 1914, instead stating that his next of kin is his sister Mary Fitzsimons who is living as St Finneans Terrace, Navan.
Grateful for any advice on the best ways to proceed,
Thanks
