My greatgrandparents, Catherine Kenny and Michael Griffin came from Kerry to Canada c. 1850. Many of their neighbors in Ontario were from Kerry---Heffernans, McGillicuddys, Spillanes, etc. Family lore has it that they sailed from Galway, no one knows why this could be. It is possible that they could have come from the Killorglin area or Killarney, but I haven't been able to pin it down. Lore also has it that one family or the other disapproved of the marriage, and this could be the reason for the departure from the strange port. If any one could help with this I'd be most grateful.
