Down (county)
I am researching this surname from Co. Down (do not have town name). I have a James (b. 1824/25) marrying Jane MILLS in NY, US, 1848/49. They stayed long enough to have 3 children & left on 'Ocean Stead' 1855. Whether more of James' family went to US with him I suspect but do not know. Any clues will be treated with appreciation & pursued, thanx
I have an ancestor named Henry Mcewen born sometime around 1790 exact birthplace yet unknown, however his marriage banns from wigtown scotland have him listed as originating from Anahilt Co Down. There are a number of individuals in the wigtown area who originate from Co Down. I believe the Mcewens from Co Down originate from Wigtownshire Scotland but many went to Northern Ireland as part of the Greening of Ulster in the early 1700s then at the end of the 1700s and early 1800s began emigrating back to Scotland with some going to America.

My ancestor, my gt.gt. grandmother was Margaret (either of the 3 spellings as on different documents) was born in Warrenpoint in 1843 and was married in the Catholic Church there in 1868. Her 3 children were born in Warrenpoint. The family came over to Liverpool but she went back to Newry Street in Warrenpoint in 1874 to give birth to a son and then returned to live in Liverpool.
She married a Patrick Dunne or Dunn
