Donegal (county)
My husband's grandparents were Con Maloney and Bridget McNelis from the Aardra, Donegal area. I would like to research their genealogy. I have met William and Pat McNelis, one was a master weaver and another a pub owner, but have no further names or addresses. Con emigrated to the US and on to Mississippi and Bridget followed about five years later. A brother of Con's also either came with him or followed soon after. A cousin was a priest there, I think. I would appreciate any help. My husband's cousin, Oona, lived in Kilebeggs (?) in the past and they ran a Pub there, but I have lost contact with her. Many, many thanks. S Brandon
I think you must be researching my Maloney/McNelis family. My great-grandfather was Peter Maloney who immigrated to Jackson, Mississippi from Ardara. His parents were Patrick Maloney and Mary McNelis. According to my grandmother (Evelyn Maloney Rook), two Maloney brothers (out of four) came to America, one of whom died, and then a third immigrated. Con is a popular name among the side of the family descended from my g-grandfather's brother. Also, my grandmother's brother Walter was a priest in Mississippi. Both he and my grandmother traveled to Donegal in the 1980s and met up with some of the McNelis family, I believe, while they were there. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to trace the Maloney/McNelis line back further than my grandmother's grandparents. I assume you're in the US?
