SOFRIN/SUFFREN
Hello John,
I have been googling around and found your posting.
I have a marriage for a David Suffren and Ann Galway in 1761 in TULLOW.
Later records show descendants in Dublin.
Later they came to Australia in the mid 1800's. I am a descendant of Margaret Suffren and Thomas Ryan married Melbourne 1865.
Margaret was daughter of David ;and Rose Suffren(nee Johnson). Thye were poor and lived in St James parish in Dublin. Many records are coi, but later ones in Dublin were RC. Rose was RC, and fromClondalkin.
I have photographed much of this and been to Tullow where the Suffren details are in a book in the library, but no knowledge of anything else.
Is this your line? ..and yes, it does seem they arrived in Nthn Ireland, Antrim and Lisburn near Belfast..where there was a Hugeunot colony, that is French Hugeunot..sorry about spelling.
It seems they are descended form Trophime de Suffren , born Provence.
Other famous descendants are John , who founded the village of Suffern in NY ..USA. ..descended form Admiral Suffren.
must go, it is late here,
best wishes, Esther Kahn nee Woolf Melbourne Australia please contact me offline ***
