Researching my great-great-grandparents, John and Bridget (McCurdy) Downie, who were married in Cushendun, County Antrim, in 1855. His parents were Robert and Margaret (McGeachan) Downie. Robert was listed as a soldier.
John and Bridget, along with my great-grandparents (John and Mary (McCormick) Downie) later settled in Greenock/Port Glasgow, Scotland.
Any further clues would be appreciated.

I have John joseph Downie & Mary Smith,married st John's parish glasgow in 1921 Johns parent's were Joseph I think came from Limerick Ireland and Mary Tolland conner. Do you have any of those name.

I have two Joseph Downies: one was an uncle and the other a brother to my grandmother, Elizabeth "Betty" Downie, born 1893 in Port Glasgow.
The former (b. 1865 in Greenock) immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio in the United States. The latter (born 1886 in Port Glasgow) married Jeanie McLaughlin in 1909. That's all we know about him.
I DO have another of Betty's brothers—Patrick—whose son, Patrick Coyle Downie, died in The Gorbals, Glasgow, in 1950.
