my grandmother was Ethel Maher who is listed as the youngest of John Mahers children in 1911. I have just started looking into my ancestry but will share any info I find out if you wish. I am based in Dublin and intend going into the archives in Bishop St where I am told you can get access to a geneologist who will point you in the right direction.

Hi I just came across your post on the above, but as in 2009 not sure if still working on the tree. My Grandfather was John Maher the son as recorded on the 1911 census and lived in Walshestown , Mullingar . My fathers name is also John . I would be interested to hear from you as I am from a family of 11.

Hi, hopefully someone will see this - notice that the last post was in 2011.

Trying to find information on the Maher/Meagher family from Mullingar.

I have found Michael Maher on the 1911 census with wife Mary and daughter Mary at 20 Springfield, Mullingar North Urban.

The name seems to change from Maher to Meagher and back again, some of Michaels children seem to have interchanged the name throughout their lives.

I've found Michael and Mary's marriage certificate, he's down as Michael Meagher, with father John Maher, and Mary's maiden name was Gray, her father was Michael Gray.

And then I'm stuck - cannot find either John Maher/Meagher in the 1901 census, or Michael Gray. There are quite a few death records for John, but I have no idea which one is his. It seems as though they weren't born, didn't marry or die, or appear in the census.

Can anyone help?
