Rennick/Murphy
Hi,
I'm building my family tree and being a Rennick by marriage I am concentrating at the moment on the Rennick side.
My husband is George RENNICK of Sligo Town, Sligo. Born 1949
His brother and sister are Tony RENNICK and Mary DYKES.
Their Father: John Joseph RENNICK
Their Mother: Annie MURPHY
(Annie came from Balleygawley, Sligo and her father was DENNIS Murphy).
John Joe's parents were:
Alfred RENNICK DOB 1892
Caroline MURPHY
John Joe's brothers and sisters were:
Agnes Christine RENNICK
Caroline (known as Carrie) RENNICK
Kathleen RENNICK
Elizabeth (known as Lizzie) RENNICK
Florence (known as Florrie) RENNICK
William Thomas RENNICK
Evelyn (Eveline?) RENNICK
Cicile (Cissie) RENNICK
Ann RENNICK
George RENNICK
I cannot find what happened to their mother Caroline. John Joe and his brothers and sisters were put into Artane orphanage in Dublin as children. We thought that both parents must have died but I have now found that the father lived until around 1923 so it would seem that Caroline either died or left him and he couldn't look after the children on his own and so put them in the orphanage. When they left the orphanage most of the children went back to Sligo.
John Joe's grandfather and grandmother were:
Thomas RENNICK and Anne MCCAWLEY.
They moved from Derry to Sligo with 4 of their children and then went on to have 4 more, including John Joe's father Alfred.
The children were:
James RENNICK DOB c1860
Patrick RENNICK DOB c1863
Sarah Jane RENNICK DOB 25 Dec 1864
Edward RENNICK DOB 20 May 1866
Joseph RENNICK DOB 12 April 1868
Alfred RENNICK DOB 1 May 1871
Teresa RENNICK DOB 10 April 1873
George Frederick RENNICK DOB 15 May 1878
I cannot find any trace of Thomas and Anne being born in Derry, or in fact anywhere in Northern Ireland, neither can I find trace of their deaths.
Do any of these names mean anything to anyone?
Thanks.
Lyn Rennick (London)
PS Other names connected are Melly, Kivlihan, Scanlon, Brett (of Tubbercurry), Dowling (of Dublin), Fowley (of Sooey, Sligo).
