MA(C)KIN - O'MALLEY
My great grandmother was CATHERINE O'MALLEY who was born in Islandeady, Co Mayo on 24/12/52 and her parents were JOHN O'MALLEY dob 1792 and BRIDGET WALSH.She married MICHAEL MACKIN who was born in Mayo in about 1849 and his parents were BRIDGET and MICHAEL MACKIN dob 1829, Queens County (Carrickmacrot) Ireland, they are on the 1861 census in Stockport, England.
Catherine and Michael had HANNAH MACKIN 1876-1930, MARY MACKIN 1878-1972, JOHN MACKIN 1880-1929, CHARLES MACKIN 1886-1902 and ELEANOR MACKIN 1887-1981. I would be very greatful if anyone has these in their family tree as thanks to great aunt ELEANOR we are trying to trace the O'MALLEY line back to see if there is any truth in the stories she used to tell us about being related to the famous pirate Grace O'Malley!! We don't have any info on Catherine's father John O'Malley as yet - I think another trip to Islandeady is on the cards.
Any help most warmly appreciated, thankyou.

Ma(c)kin - O'Malley
Diane, Hi,
Your ancestors were from Cornanool townland and mine were the other O'Malley family there in the 1800s. John O'Malley was still alive and listed on the census of 1901 so he wouldn't have been born in 1792.
Every O'Malley in the world was told as a child that they are a descendant of Grace O'Malley, you shouldn't take that too seriously.
If you put your question on the rootsweb Mayo mailing list, I can pick up your Eddress and give you more information about your family.
David O'Malley.
