Lavelle family Castlebar & Bangalore 1840's ish
Hi,
I hope someone may be able to help me. I'm trying to trace the parents of a David John Lavelle Exec Railway engineer in India, born ABT 1860/65 who was the son of M.J Lavelle born in Castlebar ABT 1840 we think. He emmigrated to India.
David married Susan Willick McHugh(daug of J McHugh ESQ.) as per marriage entry on FIBIS 25th Nov 1885 in Bangalore. This is vague I know but any help would be great.
We know that either MJ Lavelle or J McHugh married a Spanish lady if it's any help...

Michael Fitzgerald Lavelle
Hi,
I have more details to add to my last request for help. Michael Fitzgerald Lavelle whos wife was called Harriett Augusta (surname unknown yet) was the Father of Michael George Lavelle born 1857 & David John Lavelle born 1862 who married Susan McHugh in Bangalore India 25.11.1885.
Michael F Lavelle was from Castlebar, Co Mayo. He was Asoldier in the 43rd Regt and when he retired from the Army he was a pioneer in the Kolar Gold Mining Fields in Bangalore, India. I know he was born abt 1830 and died abt 1894 aged abt 64. Does anyone recognise the family or names. Any help would be fab.
Thanks
Yvonne

Hi Yvonne, I have just come back from Kolar in India and that is where I heard about Michael F Lavelle. Great story. I am originally from Sligo, just up the road from Castlebar. Did you manage to find out where MF Lavelle is buried? Back In Ireland? Presumably he would have continued to receive some kind of British Army pension so i you dont already know where he was buried the British Army records office might be able to give you some further information, Steve***If you wish to email stevecarty, Subscribe and use the Private Message (PM) links
