Ahern/O'Connell/Whyte of Limerick
My great grandfather John Whyte, a railwayman, came to South Africa +-1863. He brought his wife, Margaret (nee O'Connell), and their 5 year old daughter Johanna Jane Francis Whyte with them. Margaret O'Connell's father was Patrick O'Connell and mother Margaret Ahern. They came from the area round Cahirconlish and Templebraden. Are there any members of this family still in the area? 25/07/2014 1:06 pm

Re: Ahern/O'Connell/Whyte of Limerick
my grandfather was born in caherconlish. his name james (jim) o'connell.
to my knowledge there are a lot of o'connells still in the limerick area
that are related but i dont know who they are. there are associations with knocknaboola
and limerick city centre. my grandfather is deceased as is my father and many of his siblings. i too am o'connell of birth. i will check my data on my grandfather and see
what similarities we have.

I have Margaret or Mary Ahern married to Robert Dooly in Cork in 1816. Any connection to your "Ahern"? Email: ******If you wish to email muldool, Subscribe and use the Private Message (PM) links

Hi Mary
Thanks for your post. All I know of Margaret Ahern was that she was my gg grandmother. I know of no Dooly or Cork connections. Regards Kevin Whyte

Re: Ahern/O'Connell/Whyte of Limerick
Hi Carmel. Thanks for your post. Margaret O'Connell was born 21/04/1841 per the Parish Registry according to a note I have signed by James Ryan pp of Templebraden but her gravestone here in Cape Town states she was born in Cahirconlish. I also have a note from David Hackett (I think) pp of Cahirconlish dd 25/03/1857 which recommended Margaret to anyone who wished to employ her. She was married to John Whyte in St Michael's Church, Limerick on 01/03/1859. I hope some connection to "your" O'Connells can be established.
