DELANEY of Ballinakill
Hi, I'm looking for family history research information on my paternal, Irish ancestors.
My Great grandfather was Jeremiah DELANEY, b. abt. 1840 Ballinakill, Laoighis, QC. He married a girl named Maria (surname unknown) b.abt. 1850 Ireland and they lived their lives in Liverpool. Here they raised their children Jeremiah, Christina (my grandmother) and Mary. All the children were born in Liverpool.
My dad told us that Jeremiah DELANEY snr, worked on the 'sugar boats'?? Can anybody tell me what exactly these were?
I'm trying to find out what Maria's surname was and where she was born. Also, did they marry in Ireland before coming to live in Liverpool or, did they meet in Liverpool and marry here?
My sister and I visited Ballinakill about 4 years back and found it to be a beautiful, idyllic place. We stood outside the school and church our ancestors attended and met with Father Sean Conlon who was very helpful. We also met Christy O'Shea, a lovely gentleman, and then went over to Delaney's pub where we met and chatted with the Delaney brothers who showed us their family history book and gave us the contact details for their brother and sister, Tom Delaney and Brigid, both living in England.
Unfortunately, I moved house and when setting my pc up again it crashed. I lost everything stored on it plus my email address book!
Can anybody help me to put a surname to Maria who married Jeremiah DELANEY from Ballinakill?
If so, please respond and I could possible hold information to another branch of your own family history tree.
