What records i have been able find about my g/granda, state his birth place as COLMSDOWN, Ireland.
I have been unable to find any place with that name, dont even know what County to search.
Great g/gdads name was
NICHOLAS DEERING c 1847.
Any help would be appreciated.

The name may be Colmanstown...however there are places by that name in Clare, Dublin, Galway and Kings (Offaly) counties. A check on the name Deering in Griffiths shows the name in all of the above counties but Galway. There are no Nicholas Deerings listed (although your g/grandfather was too young, the naming patterns might have turned up a clue).
Keep looking for records, including other members of his family (siblings, cousins) who might have left better records.
