Margaret McMahon
My great grandmother was Margaret McMahon. She may have come from County Clare and I'm interested in hearing from anyone with connections to the name McMahon. Thanks!28/01/2008 2:07 am

McMAHON FAMILY
Hi
Our family has just recently carried out some research into the Irish side of the family.
My great-grandmother was Mary McMahon and was the daughter of Robert McMahon and Mary (nee Rountree). Robert was the son of James McMahon born 1793 and Rebecca born 1801. The records for their deaths can be sourced on the Clare Reformed Presbyterian Burying Ground, Ballymore Parish in Co Armagh. (see the www.bob-sinton.com website as he has some information on the inscriptions on gravestones in this burial ground. I don't think that Bob Sinton is related to the McMahons).
Robert and Margaret married on 25 June 1855 in the First Presbyterian Church at Portadown Parish in Seagot Co Armagh. Mary, their daughter, married Magnus Taylor (from Wick Scotland) and they settled in Edinburgh. They were married on 2 April 1883 in the same church as Robert. They lived in Edinburgh but she travelled back to Ireland to have her children. Their children's names were Minnie, Robert, Magnus, Sarah, Charles and Alexander.
Robert Taylor was my grandfather.
Do you think that you might be related to this Margaret McMahon?
Kind regards
Christine

McMahon from Co. Clare
My grand uncle James Crowley (born in Co. Clare) married Rose E. McMahon from Co. Clare. Her parents were Michael McMahon and Catherine McGreen.
On Rose's obit it states she had a sister Margaret.
James and Rose met and married in Chicago. They had a son James B. who died in 1989.

Re: Margaret McMahon
At the time of the 1901 census my grandmother Agnes lived in Clare, Tandragee, Co Armagh. Agnes was baptized at Clare Reformed Presb.
Father: Robert McMahon born about 1858, mother: Christina born about 1897 (nee Dempster, born in Scotland)
two daughters -
Agnes Dempster McMahon born about 1890,died 1949, married Frederick H McBride, one son
Margaret Beatrice McMahon born about 1893, married Hercules Kerr.
After Robert's death they moved to Belfast and were living there in 1911. Margaret (Peggy) had a son Bobby and daughter Christine. I believe Christine married a Mr Foster and moved to Canada. Mr Foster may have worked in the Ulster Bank in Belfast.
I don't know who Robert's parents are. I was at the grave of James and Rebecca yesterday. If my Robert was born 1858 he might be a son of the couple married in Seagoe in 1855.
