Handwright family
Hello--My ancestors were James and Elizabeth Handwright who came to the United States circa 1820, possibly through Quebec. They were born around 1787. They settled in New York state (eventually in the town of Marcy, near Utica). Their son James was my great-greatgrandfather and his obituary stated he was born in County Carlow. The Handwrights were Catholic. I have never been able to find this surname in any Irish database. Other spellings were common, of course, such as Handright, Handrite, etc. Does anyone know of this name--or similar? Thank you!
