we have Scotch/Irish ancestry; pretty sure related back to County Antrim and MacDonnells (Sorley Boy?). But, we can't find anything prior to great grandfather (Michael Mcdonnell) coming from Ireland to Massachusetts, no history in Ireland. How can I fill in the generation after Sorley Boy and up to late 1800's to see if we are related? Can I trace family of Colm MacDonnell?

Hi, I'm from Co. Antrim and while I'm not from the McDonnell family I have found gravestones bearing that name in my area, in fact myself and my sister were investigating the works of one Alexander McDonnell, a stonemason who made some of the graves in our area. He was alive sometime in the mid 18th century, but like you I cant find anything online! The only reason I came across this is because we were investigating interesting names for a story and our particularly morbid choice of inspiration was headstones.
