Dowey/ Graham in Ballymena area
My GGrandmother Rosetta Dowey was born in Galgorm, in 1866. Her parents James Thompson Dowey and Mary Graham were married in Clough Presbyterian Church, Antrim on May 26, 1854. James was a schoolmaster living at Frocess, Dundermot in Antrim and Mary was a seamstress living at Carnlea, Kirkinriola, Antrim. James' father was Patrick Dowey, a mason and Mary's father was Alexander Graham, a weaver.
If anyone has a link to my Dowey's I'd be interested to hear back from you!! I just came across this Irish connection as up until know everything had been either Scottish or English in my family research. Being a neophyte into Irish searching any help/guidance is also appreciated.

Many thanks for the information on Rosetta Dowey. You might be able to guide me on this - Rosetta had an illegitimate child, while working in Scotland as a teachers assistant, in 1885 - my Grsndfather Matthew Graham Dowey. There's no record of Matthew from his birth until the 1901 Scottish Census when he was living in Glasgow with Rosetta, her husband John Hayes and their son Henry. Is there some way school records)I could find out if Matthew was living with his Grandparents in Antrim??29/06/2009 10:39 pm

I think we may possibly have a link here. My ggg grandfather was Matthew Graham b about 1850 to Alexander Graham, a weaver from Carnlea, and Sarah Peters. He married in 1873 to Elizabeth Kenny, moved to Glasgow and had 7 children. He died 1911 in Glasgow.
Given the match up in names here, I think we may have a link. Let mw know if you want to share info.
